SUMMARY & HIGHLIGHTS
Cabin air filtration, historically much stronger and larger in Europe as compared to the U.S. and Asia , has taken off during the last few years outside of Europe . We estimated that in 1998, that there were worldwide approximately 38 million units of cabin air filters sold at a sales value of $115 MM. In 2005/2006 we believe that a total of … million units were sold worldwide, at a value of $ … million. The biggest difference between 1998 and 2006 is the much larger use of “combination filters”. In Europe –the single largest market - in 1995 less than 5%, increased in 2005 to 50% actually in some markets to 60%+ for the OEM segment.
Worldwide a distinction is made between 3 major cabin air filter market segments:
OEM (Car/Vehicle manufacturing companies)
OES (Service/Part Divisions of OEM companies)
IAM (Independent After Market)
The general trend to combination filters foremost in Europe is very apparent, and when VOLKSWAGEN - quite some time ago - decided, to furnish their GOLF platform with the combination filter, a total of at least 900,000 cars, OPEL and FORD followed soon. The market for combination filters in Europe , Japan and other countries will further increase in coming years, in North America this will take significantly longer.
Specifications are crucial for the OEM business. Only companies - filter element fabricators - who have been accepted and ‘approved/certified’ as a supplier, can ‘compete’ for a given platform. As a result, one company may sell the OEM business; another company may sell to the OES organization of the same car/vehicle manufacturer. This is particularly true for Europe.
We do believe there will be more demand for suppliers in general including CAF fabricators, to be ‘full-service’ suppliers with integrated in-house capabilities, such as computer-aid-design (CAD), engineering, links to OEM customers, media development, converting and sometimes ‘housing’ capabilities.
We have included a list of 50+ cabin air filter element fabricators/manufacturers worldwide.
A detailed listing of 40+ Chinese car manufacturers is included and their car production for 2005. In 2006 in China we may see an increase of 35% in automotive vehicles production over 2005.
